Primary Purpose of the Job:
The main objective of this job is to secure employment opportunities for clients by actively engaging with businesses, organizations, associations, and stakeholders on behalf of MCG Careers. This includes on-site visits, presentations, cold calling, social media, networking events, and other outreach and marketing channels – resulting in relevant, positive and sustainably-built employer partnerships and successful 90-day client outcomes.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Human Services, Business Development, Marketing, Sales or a relevant field
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, negotiation and networking abilities
- Advanced computer skills
- Solid knowledge of the labour market, job boards and the hidden job market
- Consistent access to a reliable vehicle with a Class 5 or higher license – much of this role is in the community
- Outreach and staffing/placement experience
- Creative and dynamic – able to use various marketing and engagement processes, including presenting, social media, B2B sales, print media
- Self-motivated

Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the following areas:
- Related academic qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in Job Development
- Demonstrated experience working with employers to hire the target client group
- Conducting employment assessments
- Assisting clients in obtaining and retaining employment knowledge
- Working with individuals living with mental health challenges
- Supporting individuals who have barriers to entering and maintaining employment
- Cold calling, networking, and developing strong employer and community relationships
- Assisting clients with resume/cover letter writing and development; assist with the completion of employment applications; computer consultations (related to the job search), and interview skills
- Coaching clients in areas of self-marketing and job search strategies and techniques
- Assisting clients with problem-solving around barriers or concerns related to employment
- Comprehensive knowledge of Career Development Theories and their application
- Knowledge of program development and implementation; experience placing clients
- An understanding of the current, local labour market

Job Title: Career Advisor
Primary Purpose of the Job: To support job seekers and those in transition to school or another career in building solid job search tools and competencies through coaching, facilitating and collaboration.
Reports to: Program Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work 1:1 with clients on individualized employment goals and strategies
- Provide coaching on resume and cover letter development, interview skills, job search strategies, networking, and other related tasks
- Workshop facilitation utilizing engaging techniques, technology and applicable, updated materials
- Develop relevant and innovative materials applicable to job search, career investigation and education exploration
- Maintain and utilize resources for community referrals
- Establish and maintain a network with community partners, employers, and industry representatives to assist clients in attaching to the labour market
- Facilitate solutions and resource connections to mitigate barriers to employment
- Ensure contract expectations are being met, including, but not limited to- assessments, reporting, referrals, and file management
- Promote MCG Careers programs and services professionally; assist in the development of various marketing materials
- Work collaboratively with the team and provide support to other programs as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Post-secondary education and experience working in a client-based industry
- Minimum 3 years in career development
- CCDP Certification is an asset
- Experience and understanding of the challenges of this specific client group
- Understanding of the career planning process
- Computer proficiency with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and using web-based software
- Knowledge of Social Media platforms
- Exposure to seminars or training programs/affiliation with professional associations related to career development
