Position: Early Childhood Nature Play Educator, FULL-TIME

Location of job: 121 Sunset Blvd SE, Diamond Valley, AB (our program is based out of the Turner Valley Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion)

Job summary: Join our team of Early Childhood Educators at Connections Nature Play, Diamond Valley’s first licensed and nature-based child care program! Foster wonder, curiosity and connection with children while enjoying time outdoors in the Foothills. Training provided related to program and position, first aid, dynamic risk assessment, and more. The successful candidate will be someone who loves actively co-creating experiences with young children outdoors and is ready to jump in with both feet!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting small groups of children aged 3-6 in indoor and outdoor child-led, inquiry-based play opportunities that encourage a sense of wonder about and connection with the natural world, and encouraging awareness, appreciation and respect for Indigenous cultures
  • Prioritizing safety when facilitating daily walking field trips to off-site play areas
  • Conducting real-time dynamic risk assessments during periods of ‘risky’ or adventurous play
  • Being a positive role model for children, and cultivating relationships with fellow Educators and children based on trust and respect
  • Ensuring open and honest communication with parents and fellow Educators through daily procedures and weekly Educator Check-Ins
  • Take part in experience review at 3-month mark and annually thereafter
  • If not already ECE qualified, successful candidate will be required to complete free online coursework to achieve Level 1 ECE status within six months of start date. Once qualified, wage increases, government wage top ups apply, and Professional Development Funding becomes available.


  • Must hold minimum Level 2 ECE certification
  • Forest and Nature School Practitioner certification an asset, but not required to start
  • Standard First Aid certification an asset, but will train after 3-month probationary period
  • Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (dated no more than six months prior to start date).

Hours: Monday to Friday, 35-40 hours per week from September 2, 2024 to June 27, 2025, then start up again in September as our program runs only September to June. Possibility of working over the summer hosting day camps. Hours may change due to enrollment.

Wage: $23.60 to $29.00 per hour including provincial ECE wage top up, depending on certification level.
