The ideal candidate will have:

  • Career Development or Career Advising certificate
  • Exceptional facilitation skills; 2-3 years experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Energetic, optimistic, confident, adaptable
  • Excellent in assisting clients to meet personal and employment goals
  • Knowledge of community agencies

Position Pillars include:

  • Facilitate career related skill development workshops to small to medium size groups
  • To deliver workshop curriculum using individualized client service plans and delivery methods that match the client learning style
  • Complete the designated curriculum within the time allocations and to the specific workshop outcomes
  • Consider the cultural diversity of learners so that individual and group needs and workshop outcomes are achieved
  • Encourage each learner to apply workshop outcomes in individualized client service plans
  • Provide individual advice when needed to promote learning and action on workshop topics
  • Understand and apply the use of assessment instruments to the career planning process. Be able to interpret and use a variety of career assessment instruments and tools through quality assurance workshop audits
  • To assess the level of competency of each learner to the standards required in the curriculum
  • Identify employment potential including; barriers to employment, budget, stress management, coping with change, problem solving and communication skills
  • Keep daily attendance up to date documentation on activities in their individual files and case notes
  • Collaborate with other team members in addressing client success by participating in case management meetings
  • Report client progress to the Program Manager
  • Build self-marketing skills in clients including; resumes, references and interview skills
  • Explore values, interests and skills relating to career opportunities
  • Assist learners to use research, brainstorming and creativity to generate work or education options for any given career area
  • Apply current knowledge of the labour market relevant to clients. Help clients to explore the changing work environment as it applies to their work interests.
  • Analyse previous work issues of clients, futures such as, work ethic and job retention
  • Encourage appropriate dress and personal hygiene
  • Help clients use current information resources for career exploration
  • Help clients to achieve and maintain economic independence
  • Use an in-depth, practical knowledge of general and Alberta specific research tools related to the labour market and job search to assist clients
  • Within the appropriate workshops, develop career development strategies / strategies for individual clients such as; education options, apprenticeship, work experience
  • Generate ideas and suggestions to solve individual learner challenges
  • Practical application of job maintenance techniques
  • Assist in marketing of program
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager
